I got your email, Spitfire. Thank you! It's nice to know that you can count on your friends being there when you need them. I chose them well. Right now I'm just taking my time and absorbing the fact that I will never see my Dad again. I'm not going to talk much about it until I've given it time to settle in my head and heart.
Now I totally understand when people say "you never know what you've got until it is gone." (I heard a coworker complaining today because her parents are visiting and taking up space in her small apartment, and all I could think was "you f***ing lucky girl...you still have a dad.")
I'm glad you are getting something out of the book. It's not for everyone, and I really didn't know if it would help you or not. Both Self Matters and Life Strategies really helped me. I discovered that the hand-holding methodologies and the vague concept methodologies of other authors (notably John Gray, Barbara D'Angelis, Deepak Chopra) and God-forbid the plain stupidity of Dr. Laura Schlessinger just didn't cut it for me. I needed someone to cut through the crud and tell it like it is. A good smack in the head, so to speak. Rip off the bandaid! Dr. Phil works for me.
It's a lot of work and does take time, but hey, it's the rest of your life we're dealing with. So keep at it! You should have a look at the show if you get the chance, because concepts he uses in the book are often used for several types of issues and problems he talks about on TV, and it really drives the point home.
Looks like both you and I are getting pumped. I actually have a chest, abs and arms now thanks to the new weight room at my martial arts club. Oh, and we have to thank tofu as well! ;-)
